We got away to Bled Slovenia, about 4 hours south of Vienna Austria.  To get there you drive through 17 mountains. The road goes up to the mountain then continues through it.  I am amazed and thankful for the engineers that makes the trip so much easier.  I love mountains, yet being able to tunnel through them instead of having to take hours going around them is fantastic.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment that accepted our dog.  It would have been a really quiet apartment since it is away from main roads and thoroughfares.  But the access road was being dug up to access pipes or sewer or something.  Large trucks and diggers added noise and dust. Not that we spent much time in the apartment while they were working.
There were too many interesting places to visit.

not very clear but our binoculars told us that it says
1000!!!
Unbeknownst to us Bled Castle was celebrating its 1000 years which meant a fabulous fireworks show on Saturday night.  We didn’t know about it so we went back to the apartment.  Had we known we would have stayed by the lake and castle to view them.  Fortunately we could see them from our balcony.
Our week was relaxing and very romantic.  We three love hiking and exploring so we walked around lakes, up gorges, through cities, and up to castles.  And their fresh bread is fantastic! Their fresh made cheeses and ice creams decadent.  And the meat and fish wonderful.

Church of the Assumption on Bled Island

The bells in the church are supposed to grant wishes-
So the Bells ring frequently as visitors get to pull the rope and make their wish
